Why you should boycott Olympics Beijing 2008

Because they do things like this!

Olympics clean-up Chinese style: Inside Beijings shocking death camp for
cats

Thousands of pet cats in Beijing are being abandoned by
their owners and sent to die in secretive government pounds as China mounts an
aggressive drive to clean up the capital in preparation for the Olympic Games.

Hundreds of cats a day are being rounded and crammed into cages so small
they cannot even turn around.

Then they are trucked to what animal
welfare groups describe as death camps on the edges of the city.

The
cull comes in the wake of a government campaign warning of the diseases cats
carry and ordering residents to help clear the streets of them.
SAY NO to animal abuse! SAY NO to China Olympics!!

She said the problem could be traced back to former president Jiang Zemin for
the crackdown.

"He didn't like dogs so he decided to have dogs killed.
But there was a bad reaction from the foreign media and they were pressured to
stop.

"Now they have stopped killing dogs but the new victims are cats.
It is all connected to the Olympics."

Cats are regularly dumped on her
doorstep late at night by owners frightened by the government campaign.
SAY NO TO OLYMPICS!! JUST SAY NO TO CHINA! TO HELL WITH THOSE INVOLVED IN THIS ANIMAL CRUELTY! MAY THINGS LIKE THAT HAPPEN TO THEM AND THEIR LOVED ONES! I'M NOT BEING CRUEL, THEY ARE! AN EYE FOR AN EYE, THEY DESERVE THE PAIN THEY PUT THE ANIMAL THROUGH, AND NOW THEY MUST SUFFER!!

BOYCOTT OLYMPICS BEIJING 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you need to blame more the irresponsible owners instead of the government. :)

You are just propagating what the western medias want you to propagate. Rupert Murdoch is just too American to tolerate Chinese though he just married a chinese wife. Try to balance more facts prior to issuing statements like "boycott olympics". This boycott olympics campaigns have taken many spheres in recent times. Ask what American did when they go into Iraq? They treat Iraqi like what you described above. So boycott America?

Huei, I have no problem with animal protection and all for it. But try not to associate a single race for bring the biggest abuser and then even linked boycott of olympics. These are western media propaganda aimed at undermining a supposedly apolitical olympic games. thank you. ;-)

cruel..... but i dont think these are the only animals. perhaps they even kill some people on the street just to make ways for new construction too.

That is nothing to do with Olympics. I believe the animal cruelty happens in every corner of the world. Why only when it is happening in China, the public reaction is so overwhelming. The same issue applies to Darfur and Tibet. I support Beijing Olympics but dun get me wrong, I dun support the way they treat the cats. Perhaps they should have treated the animal more humanly.

Is china really kill those cats just for beijing olympic? i dont think so, catching & killing "wild" dogs & cats with no owner is a common practice in many countries.

So never try to "enlarge" this issue & relate it with the Beijing Olympic.

amei..ok leme get this straight

1. the article said..

"China mounts an
aggressive drive to clean up the capital in preparation for the Olympic Games."

I write, what i read, and if it's the article that has mistakes, then go scold them, not me, because they are the ones giving information.

2. You wrote
"catching & killing "wild" dogs & cats with no owner is a common practice in many countries."

Killing of stray animals is common, but there's a difference between the way they kill animals. Leaving them to die of hunger/heat/fight will lead to disease, and thus not only harming cats, humans will also be affected, and at the end of the day, they blame animals.

Also..read this for update regarding this issue.

Lastly, i never "enlarge" the issue, it's what the article wrote, and if it really has nothign to do with olympics, then i sense a higher immoral value to use that as an excuse to kill cats the cruel way.

ron..well..i think when humans get killed, there are laws to protect them, or well, at least claim justice for them.

as for animals, what do we have? only SPCA? What so animal abusers will undergo lockup for few days, and a couple of hundred is enough to bail them out?
